Through this volume, we bring together leading thinkers to articulate India's strategic priorities on AI, critically examining evolving policy landscape and the country's readiness to navigate the opportunities and risks of a rapidly changing AI ecosystem.

How is Generative AI reshaping creative work in India? Through this project, we explore GenAI's impact on entertainment industries and workers' rights, while imagining fairer, more vibrant futures for creativity, solidarity, and collective action.

Can AI adoption in judicial processes in India advance public interest? Through this project, we develop AI use guidelines and ethical procurement processes to ensure that its integration aligns with natural justice principles and accountability.

Through this project, we identify barriers and enablers for open-source voice technologies in India, to develop best practices and recommendations for their responsible development and use.

AI-enabled tools can transform overburdened healthcare systems, but come with significant risks. We’re developing a risk assessment and mitigation framework to ensure the safe, ethical, and responsible adoption of AI in Indian healthcare systems.

Making AI systems open-source could democratise the AI ecosystem. But, open-source AI could contribute to newer forms of data extractivism. We explore some of these tensions and develop recommendations for Indian policymakers and AI developers through this project.

What are the tech and political decisions needed today to shape safe, fair, and sustainable futures? Through participatory foresight & storytelling, we examine the near-future risks and unintended consequences of GenAI use in critical social sectors in India.

AI can aid climate action but also contributes to the worsening of the climate crisis. Code Green is a monthly newsletter and podcast that cuts through the hype around AI and Climate Action in Asia, surfacing the latest scientific research and expert insights.

As India’s first capacity-strengthening programme targeted at social impact organisations, the Fellowship helps grow knowledge frameworks, tools and capacities for Responsible AI, through 1:1 mentoring, peer exchange, and expert lectures.

LLMs in India can drive access to crucial information and services, but come with risks including, bias and informational harms. This study explored gender bias across the LLM lifecycle and developed bias mitigation strategies for developers and policymakers.

Under this initiative, we supported grantees of Gates Foundation’s Global Grand Challenges to advance responsible GenAI in LMICs. We helped shape ethical, gender-equitable AI solutions for social impact through expert guidance, peer learning and research.

Climate change has pushed the Asian region across a tipping point of irreversible change. We examined the opportunities, challenges and risks at the intersection of AI and climate action in Asia to see whether––and if––it can help address the crisis in the region.
